WOW!!
The Bandits rolled through the Winter Worlds in Las Vegas last weekend enroute to a 6-0 record, and the Championship trophy!
This was definately the biggest win of the year for the Bandits. Home team for all six games, Keith should have been in the sports book instead of on the field. As Thurston Howell said, "This was major flippage."
The first five games saw the Bandits come from behind in the bottom of the seventh for one run wins! Friday saw them beating Wongs and Texas Mission. Saturday morning was a victory over the B.C. Maurauders setting up an evening game against the powerful Four Seasons. Last time these two teams met, Four Seasons scored 7 runs in the bottom of the seventh for a win. This time it was the Bandits who came from behind, despite a courtesy running error and a batting out of order error that Four Seasons did not catch. Mark Reagin got the big hit to tie the game, and Dave Quenzler got the game winner. Whoa, what a heart stopper!
For once most of us did not have to get up early as we were now in the finals of the winners bracket against undefeated East Bay Oldies. The Oldies flexed their muscles early, scoring 5 runs in their first four at bats. But the Bandits managed to hang close, chipping away at the lead. By the time the bottom of the 7th rolled around they were only down by 5. Could they possibly manage another miracle? Of course they could! Unbelievably the Bandits scored 6 and advanced on the championship game, waiting for the winner of the Oldies / Mudhens game.
The Mudhens whipped the Oldies, setting up the finals. The Mudhens managed to hang close early, but this time there would be no come from behind victory for the Bandits. It wasn't needed. Tucson Bandits, Winter World Champs 2008. Bring on the Tournament of Champions!
THE CURSE OF THE FU MANCHU HAS BEEN LIFTED!! Stats to follow.
